Dr. Livasha Mudaly
MBBCh (Wits SA), DAS Pharm.Med. (ECPM Basel), FFPM (RCP UK)
I obtained my medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa in 2001 and went on to further my education by obtaining a Diploma in Advanced Studies in Pharmaceutical Medicine, from the European Commission of Pharmaceutical Medicine, Basel. I then completed a Fellowship through the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal Colleges of Physicians, United Kingdom.
During this time, I always felt there was something lacking in modern-day Medicine and how we treated patients and people in general. Even before qualifying as a medical doctor the complementary facets of healing interested and intrigued me immensely.
After qualifying as a doctor I saw on a daily basis how medical practitioners focus their healing mainly on the physical aspects of a person, ignoring the other aspects (including the mental, emotional, psychological, social & spiritual parts) which make us whole. After specialising in Pharmaceutical Medicine I learnt in detail about the pharmacology of drugs and their effects (both good and bad) on the body.
This led me to see even more clearly how often we put a plaster on superficial wounds, without addressing the deeper, hidden, underlying causes of the illnesses afflicting our patients.
As a result of this I wished to study other healing modalities to further develop my understanding of the mind-body-spirit connection, so that I could more positively impact the lives of those around me. My sense of adventure and thirst for knowledge led me around the globe, in my search for complementary therapies.
I first did a Reiki course and then went on to become a Reiki Master. While living in London I attended a Crystal Healing Course. I also journeyed to Whistler (Canada) where I first learnt the technique of Primordial Sound Meditation at a course led by Dr. Deepak Chopra & the late Dr. David Simon (founding members of the Chopra Centre – both medical doctors with postgraduate specialist degrees and holistic healthcare practitioners).
After experiencing the benefits of this type of meditation for myself, I registered to become a Chopra Centre Certified Primordial Sound Meditation Instructor. This led me to attend instructor courses in America (both in Arizona and at the Chopra Centre in Carlsbad, California). I wanted people to rediscover peace, happiness and calm in their lives by introducing this type of meditation technique to them.
Although I currently work in the medical field, I am becoming more passionate about holistic and complementary health & healing techniques. I reside in Cape Town, South Africa and am committed to helping others achieve balance, happiness and inner & outer peace in their often frenetic lives.
Drs. Deepak Chopra and David Simon founded the Chopra Centre for Well-being in Carlsbad, California, to offer individuals from around the world programs in stress management, mind-body medicine, emotional healing, and life transformation. They have both practiced and taught the fusion of Ayurveda with modern science for over 35 years.
Deepak Chopra, M.D., F.A.C.P., founder of The Chopra Foundation, is acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest leaders in the field of mind-body-spirit medicine. Dr. Chopra continues to transform our understanding of the meaning of health and healing. The author of more than 80 books, Deepak is changing the way the world views physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social wellness. Time magazine has described him as ‘one of the top 100 heroes and icons of the century’.
David Simon, M.D. a board-certified neurologist, was a pioneer in mind-body-spirit medicine. Since co-founding the Chopra Centre for Well-being with Deepak Chopra in the early 1990s, Dr. Simon had become one of the world’s foremost authorities on the effective and appropriate use of holistic healthcare practices. He was also the author of many popular wellness books, and developed programs dedicated to helping people consciously heal and transform their lives. David brought a unique perspective to the relationship between mind, emotions and health.
